现实中夫妻离异再婚并各自带有孩子重新组建家庭是非常普遍的现象。可是如果这两位孩子的年龄是39和40 岁呢？你会怎么想？之前没来美国之前听说美国人是基本上不和父母住在一起的。可是，来到美国后发现根本就不是这么一回事。特别是现在，孩子成人后和父母居住的现象越来越普遍。当然其中的一大主要原因是就业市场的萎靡和孩子低不成高不就。有越来越多的成年人和自己的父母住在一起。
而影片里的这两兄弟就是这样的例子。他们分别是39 和40岁。都和自己的父亲和母亲居住在一起，整天无所事事，属于典型的“啃老族”。因为他们父母的结合，让这两个原本不认识的两个成年人成了兄弟，并住到了一个屋檐下。
你可以想象自己的生活中突然出现这么一个非亲兄弟的兄弟是什么样的心情。两个人同样的游手好闲，同样没有生活目标。自然，都对对方没有好脸色。并且想方设法相互骚扰和打击对方。两个兄弟有一个共同的毛病。那就是两人都有夜游的习惯。结果，家里被他们两搞得鸡犬不宁，让两人的父母大伤脑筋。
两兄弟的关系转机出现在其中一个兄弟的亲生弟弟家庭的来访。该弟弟事业成功，春风得意，对自己的兄长从小就看不起并协同学校的其他同学一起来打击自己的哥哥，让哥哥明明有着天籁之声也不敢继续在舞台上对着观众表演，从此意志消沉，失去工作并成为啃老一族。
非亲兄弟的兄弟被这位弟弟给惹毛并出手教训了他。这让另一位兄弟刮目相看，两人就此成为好朋友。这两兄弟有着各自的才艺。一位是架子鼓高手，另一位有着天籁之声。最后，两人决定合作组成音乐组合。
两人的一些其他举动让父母终于忍受不了，导致婚姻破坏离异。离异后，两兄弟大受打击，觉得终于应该长大接受应有的责任。两个各自找了不同的工作，有了各自的宿舍，支付着自己的账单。为了撮合父母再次复合，他们计划了品酒会。会场上，由于客户对乐队人员的羞辱，让乐队人员恼羞成怒反击并被带离。眼看着会场就要失败，在父亲的鼓励下，两兄弟登上舞台，成功演绎了音乐合作并获得巨大成功。
