現實中夫妻離異再婚並各自帶有孩子重新組建家庭是非常普遍的現象。可是如果這兩位孩子的年齡是39和40 歲呢？你會怎麼想？之前沒來美國之前聽說美國人是基本上不和父母住在一起的。可是，來到美國後發現根本就不是這么一回事。特別是現在，孩子成人後和父母居住的現象越來越普遍。當然其中的一大主要原因是就業市場的萎靡和孩子低不成高不就。有越來越多的成年人和自己的父母住在一起。
而影片里的這兩兄弟就是這樣的例子。他們分別是39 和40歲。都和自己的父親和母親居住在一起，整天無所事事，屬於典型的「啃老族」。因為他們父母的結合，讓這兩個原本不認識的兩個成年人成了兄弟，並住到了一個屋檐下。
你可以想像自己的生活中突然出現這么一個非親兄弟的兄弟是什麼樣的心情。兩個人同樣的游手好閑，同樣沒有生活目標。自然，都對對方沒有好臉色。並且想方設法相互騷擾和打擊對方。兩個兄弟有一個共同的毛病。那就是兩人都有夜遊的習慣。結果，家裡被他們兩搞得雞犬不寧，讓兩人的父母大傷腦筋。
兩兄弟的關系轉機出現在其中一個兄弟的親生弟弟家庭的來訪。該弟弟事業成功，春風得意，對自己的兄長從小就看不起並協同學校的其他同學一起來打擊自己的哥哥，讓哥哥明明有著天籟之聲也不敢繼續在舞台上對著觀眾表演，從此意志消沉，失去工作並成為啃老一族。
非親兄弟的兄弟被這位弟弟給惹毛並出手教訓了他。這讓另一位兄弟刮目相看，兩人就此成為好朋友。這兩兄弟有著各自的才藝。一位是架子鼓高手，另一位有著天籟之聲。最後，兩人決定合作組成音樂組合。
兩人的一些其他舉動讓父母終於忍受不了，導致婚姻破壞離異。離異後，兩兄弟大受打擊，覺得終於應該長大接受應有的責任。兩個各自找了不同的工作，有了各自的宿舍，支付著自己的賬單。為了撮合父母再次復合，他們計劃了品酒會。會場上，由於客戶對樂隊人員的羞辱，讓樂隊人員惱羞成怒反擊並被帶離。眼看著會場就要失敗，在父親的鼓勵下，兩兄弟登上舞台，成功演繹了音樂合作並獲得巨大成功。
