劇情簡介：
山姆·維特維奇（希亞·拉博夫飾）成功阻止了「霸天虎」和「汽車人」兩派變形金剛的對決，拯救了全世界的兩年後，他雖然被視為英雄人物，但是他還是一個青少年，對於即將要上大學這件事充滿了焦慮，尤其是要離開他的女友米凱拉（梅根·福克斯飾）以及第一次離開他的父母。
他也必須向留下來守護他的變形金剛「大黃蜂」解釋，他不希望他跟他去大學，因為山姆只想要過一個平凡的大學生涯，但是他這么做，就必須拋開他的宿命。正當山姆想要盡可能把之前被捲入變形金剛大戰的事件撤底忘記的同時，那場大戰卻造成了很多改變。
第七區被政府關閉，而忠心耿耿的西蒙（約翰·特托羅飾）則被開除。一個被稱為NEST的單位取代了第七區，他們利用蘭諾斯中校（喬什·杜哈明飾）以及愛普斯（泰瑞斯·吉布森飾）曾經和「霸天虎」交過手的經驗，和「汽車人」攜手合作，避免「霸天虎」再次肆虐地球。
只可惜短視的美國政府國家安全局顧問只想掌控美國所有的國防單位以及它們的力量，同時他認為NEST是無關緊要的單位，因為「霸天虎」不再構成威脅，所以打算關閉NEST。他認為人類不該捲入「汽車人」與「霸天虎」的紛爭。
而當山姆好不容易甩掉一直對他碎碎念的父母，來到他的宿舍寢室時，卻發現他的室友里奧（雷曼·羅德克里茲飾）除了是個瘋計算機的宅男以外，也無所不用其極想要把大學的校花愛麗絲（伊莎貝爾·盧卡斯飾）。
這時候山姆的腦海突然像被閃電擊中一樣，看到一幕一幕的影像從眼前閃過。他很怕自己像他的祖父一樣發瘋了，一開始死也不肯說出這個秘密，後來才發現出現在他腦海中的這些符號絕對不容忽視。
